SafeByte Backup Remote Security Suite FAQ

What is the SafeByte Backup Security Suite? The SafeByte Backup Security Suite protects the data on your computer by allowing you to erase or shred your data by remote in case your computer is lost or stolen. It can also record pictures and sound, collect data about its environment, record information that might help discover its location, and transmit all this to your SafeByte Backup account for you to view, print, and pass on to the police.

What do I do if my computer is lost? Immediately go to another computer and log into your account at the SafeByte Backup website. Click the Security Suite button. Place a checkmark in the space beside Activate Security Suite. Click Save Changes. Check back regularly until you see a message that says, "Security Information Received." Select the other tabs to view your information. See the manuel for more information.

Can I activate the Security Suite from my own computer using the SafeByte Backup application? No. For security and privacy reasons, the Security Suite must be activated from a web browser. It does not appear on any of the SafeByte Backup application's screens.

Can you (or anyone else) see the pictures or other info from my computer? Can you turn on my camera and spy on me? No. The data sent by the Remote Security Suite is encrypted using the encryption key you selected when you installed it. If you entered your own encryption key, only you can view the data. If you chose to use SafeByte Backup's default encryption key, SafeByte Backup may be able to assist you, but only with your permission.

Do you guarantee that the Remote Security Suite will work? The Remote Security Suite will not work if someone disables SafeByte Backup or uninstalls it, formats the hard drive, or doesn't connect the computer to the Internet. Some of the information collected by the Remote Security Suite depends on the proper operation of a camera, microphone, Internet connection, wireless network card, and the detection of wireless access points. If some or all of these resources are missing or inoperable, the Remote Security Suite may not be able to collect information, transmit it to the SafeByte Backup Servers, or respond to commands to erase or shred files.

How do I sign up? The Remote Security Suite is included in SafeByte Backup. For details on adding it to SafeByte Pro Please Contact Sales
